Babul, Shelina

Dr. Shelina Babul is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She completed her PhD in Exercise Physiology at UBC in 2001. As Director of the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit at BC Children’s Hospital, Dr. Babul leads the organization’s research, surveillance, program coordination, and knowledge translation activities across the province of British Columbia.

Her research focuses on identifying critical gaps in injury prevention; advancing concussion research and promoting uptake of effective interventions; and coordination of provincial, national, and international concussion initiatives. Dr. Babul developed the Concussion Awareness Training Tool (CATT), which includes eLearning modules for medical professionals, coaches, athletes, and other audiences.

Recently, Dr. Babul has received several awards including the 2025 Alumni UBC Global Citizenship Award, the 2025 Certificate of Merit Award from the Canadian Association for Medical Education (CAME), and the 2023 UBC Faculty of Medicine Clinical Faculty Award for Excellence in Research (Clinical or Applied).
