CTRC: a major role in Global Coalition for TBI
Advocating for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) at the World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva
On May 21, 2025, an international group of advocates including clinicians, researchers, allied health professionals, and patients, gathered as the Global Coalition for TBI to co-host a side event at the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva. The event, entitled Recognizing Traumatic Brain Injury as a Chronic and Notifiable Condition, aimed to strengthen global recognition of TBI as a preventable, chronic, and notifiable condition to improve surveillance, policy, prevention, and long-term care for survivors.
Speakers included Dr Alexis Turgeon on behalf of the CTRC, along with international experts and representatives from WHO and advocacy organizations.
The Coalition now includes over 30 organizations worldwide, bringing together professional societies, NGOs, and patient groups. Its activities support WHO’s Brain Health priorities and promote TBI advocacy on global health platforms.
Since the event, the Pakistan government, in collaboration with the Global Coalition for TBI, has announced support for a resolution recognizing TBI as a global health priority. This resolution will be presented at the 79th WHA in May 2026 and has been drafted with input from global experts, TBI survivors, and governmental representatives.
