Anwer, Mehwish

Dr. Mehwish Anwer is an Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at the University of Lethbridge, where she leads a translational research program focused on understanding why the brain responds so differently to traumatic brain injury (TBI) across cells, regions, and individuals.

Her laboratory combines spatial transcriptomics, quantitative neuropathology, multiplex imaging, and experimental models to map the neuronal, glial, and neurovascular responses that drive vulnerability, resilience, and recovery after injury. By integrating molecular changes with tissue pathology and clinically relevant measures, her research aims to define biologically meaningful subtypes and trajectories of TBI, identify mechanisms and biomarkers of injury and recovery, and uncover targets for more precise diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment.

Her long-term goal is to bridge human neuropathology and experimental neuroscience to improve how TBI is biologically characterized and ultimately translated into better patient care.
